A leaker says Nvidia's RTX 60 and most of AMD's RDNA 5 will skip 2027

A post on the AnandTech forum claims both next-generation GPU families arrive in 2028, with one AMD card in 2027. It is an unsourced leak, and Nvidia and AMD have not commented.

A leaker known as Kepler_L2 wrote on the AnandTech forum that Nvidia’s Rubin-based RTX 60 series and AMD’s RDNA 5 graphics cards will both launch in 2028, according to Notebookcheck on 16 September. The one exception, the post says, is an AMD chip called AT2 that is due in 2027.

Treat this as a rumor. Kepler_L2 gave no source and no reason for the dates, and neither Nvidia nor AMD has announced a schedule for these products.

What the leak claims

According to Notebookcheck, the post says no new Nvidia Rubin GPUs will arrive next year. For AMD, it says the only RDNA 5 part due in 2027 is AT2, a card the article describes as comparable to Nvidia’s high-end Blackwell cards such as the RTX 5080.

Notebookcheck offers its own guess about why AT2 might come early: Sony’s PS6 is expected in late 2027 and is based on RDNA 5, so a related chip could ship around then. That is the outlet’s speculation, not part of the leak.

If the post is right, a gamer with an RTX 5080 or an RX 9070 would have no reason to expect a new Nvidia generation for at least two more holiday seasons, and the next real choice in the upper range would be one AMD card.

Why the timing keeps slipping

This is not the first schedule change. Club386 reported on 6 February, citing The Information, that Nvidia had delayed its RTX 50 Super refresh because of memory shortages and the priority given to AI chips. That report said the RTX 60 series, codenamed Rubin, had previously been expected to enter mass production in late 2027 with a launch around CES in January 2028, and that this timeline no longer held. Club386 also noted that its own headline overstated the body of the report, which gave no new RTX 60 date. Everything in it rested on anonymous sources and was unconfirmed.

In September, Notebookcheck adds that another leaker, Moore’s Law Is Dead, had said the RTX 60 series was pushed to 2027 so that AI customers could absorb as much of TSMC’s capacity as possible this year. The article also recalls an earlier report that Nvidia was targeting the first half of 2027, after an original plan for 2026.

The Notebookcheck piece itself points out that Kepler_L2 and Moore’s Law Is Dead have disagreed with each other before. So the story has two layers: a documented pattern of delay since February, and a single unsupported date for where it ends.

How much to trust it

Leaks are useful as a direction, not as a calendar. What the evidence supports is narrow:

  • Nvidia is reported to have reshuffled its gaming roadmap this year because memory and chip capacity are going to AI. That comes from The Information, via Club386, and is also unconfirmed.
  • Several different leakers now place the RTX 60 series later than 2027, in the first half of 2027 at the earliest and 2028 at the latest. They do not agree on which.
  • The 2028 date for RDNA 5 matches earlier leaks that Notebookcheck says had already suggested a slip.

The same constraints that are hurting PC builders now, tight memory supply covered in our report on the YMTC three-year claim, are the reasons given for the delays. A new gaming GPU needs GDDR memory, and that memory is competing with server demand.

What to do with this

Nobody should plan a purchase around a forum post. If you need a graphics card now, the current RTX 50 and RDNA 4 generations are what is on shelves, and this leak, if true, suggests they will stay the newest for a long time. If you can wait, the next solid signals are an Nvidia or AMD keynote, or a memory-vendor roadmap that names a consumer GDDR schedule for next year.

Neither company has said anything yet. Until one does, the honest summary is: later than planned, date unknown.
